Vocabulary learning ranges from learning words for a new language to saving key terms from a business or design project. Splunk introduces a way for users to expand their vocabulary by helping them memorize and utilize words they don't know and apply them to their regular life daily.
The process started by identifying the problem and I believe that creating an app that focuses on learning through a verbal format that is interactive throughout the day while keeping it motivating for the user, will help them achieve their goal of learning new words and remembering to use them regularly.
The next step was to conduct an analysis based on two competitors currently in the market.
7 Little Words
7 Little words is an app used to increase the vocabulary of users through puzzles in the form of small pieces of longer words.
-Exercises are very easy to use, descriptive, and helpful
-Product was easy to use and enjoy using
-Would add an option to show the definition of the word once a user guesses it through the puzzle
WordUp
WordUp is an app used to learn new words and improve the vocabulary of its users. It provides an easy way to learn the definition of new words and get clarity into how a user uses them.
-Performs well, has good ease of use, and like how quickly it gives new words
-Gives confidence on how to use new words
-Would add a feature that gives 1 new word daily that a user may or may not know
Next, it was time to create a user persona based on the current research to create a fictional character to base the app design and principle on.
Then an architecture of how the app will work based on the two tasks was done. The two tasks were adding a flashcard and creating an account.
I conducted the usability test with 3 individuals moderated in-person. Full testing documents can be accessed below.
